Allegations against staff

All allegations against people who work with children (including foster carers and volunteers) must be reported by the employer within one working day to Cumbria's Local Authority Designated Officer, (LADO).

How to contact the LADO

The LADO for Cumbria is: Robert Parks

Robert can be contacted during working hours on 01900 706453 or by mobile 07792976486.

For non urgent matters he can be contacted by email robert.parks@cumbriacc.gov.uk or at Cumbria Children's Services, New Oxford Street Workington Cumbria CA14 2LW

What must be reported :

The Senior Manager within the Organisation (SMO) must report any of the followings to the LADO

Any allegation that someone who works with children has

  • behaved in a way that has harmed or may have harmed a child
  • possibly committed a criminal offence related to a child
  • behaved in a way that indicates that he/she is unsuitable to work with children

What will happen next?

The LAD0 will take information and provide advice as to what should be done next.

He /she will advise if the police or children's social care need to be involved and make sure this happens.

Allegations are managed according to Chapter 7 of Cumbria's Safeguarding Procedures which can be accessed from the policies and procedures section above or direct via this link.

Information for those subject to allegations

The LSCB acknowledges this is often distressing for those involved and has produced an Information Leaflet which explains the procedures which are followed and the various avenues of support which may be available. This should be given by the employer to all those who are subject to an allegation. The LSCB expects employers to ensure appropriate support is offered to staff and is developing a tool to monitor their experience once the process is complete.
