28.7     WORKING WITH FAITH COMMUNITIES

28.7.1     It is important to consider engagement with the leaders of the families own faith community when working with families although care should be taken to establish whether the faith group supports the practice of abusive exorcism. It is possible that concerns may arise from particular cases about places of worship including a lack of priority to child protection issues, a promotion of distrust of secular authorities or specific practices which amount to abuse. The services concerned would need to consider how best to tackle these concerns including considering seeking the involvement of the representatives of Faith communities on the main Cumbria Local safeguarding Children’s Board.
